PMA Statement on US Supreme Court Opinion on PennEast v. State of NJ

June 30, 2021 Energy

David N. Taylor, President & CEO of the Pennsylvania Manufacturers’ Association issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Supreme Court reversal of an earlier Third U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals decision that prevented the PennEast Pipeline Company from using federal eminent domain to construct a 120-mile pipeline.

The Pennsylvania Manufacturers’ Association, in partnership with the New Jersey Business & Industry Association, filed an amicus brief with the Supreme Court in support of PennEast.

The Pennsylvania Manufacturers’ Association is deeply pleased that the intransigence of the state of New Jersey has been properly dismissed by the Supreme Court of the United States. The awful Third Circuit decision, had it been allowed to stand, would have subverted the ability of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to exercise its powers granted to it by Congress under the Natural Gas Act.

American energy production makes possible our very high and ever-rising quality of life. PMA looks forward to maximizing Pennsylvania’s energy opportunity, bringing to market untold trillions of cubic feet of natural gas to fuel American homes, generate affordable electricity, power America’s industrial economy, and re-shore petrochemical manufacturing jobs. We are especially grateful to our friends at the New Jersey Business & Industry Association for standing with us to petition the Court to take the case and in making our arguments to the Court on the merits
